What is an inverter?

One of the most common mis-conceptions is that an Inverter means that it is a Hot and Cold unit, this is not correct. An Inverter is a power conversion circuit which can regulate the voltage, current and frequency of a device. The Inverter circuit in an Air conditioner controls the revolutions of the Compressor, therefore its output. Raising the frequency increases the output, lowering the frequency reduces it. With the unit working in this way the Inverter models provide much finer temperature control than conventional models.

What are the advantages of an Inverter?

Firstly, it provides the exact amount of power it needs to rapidly heat or cool the room, therefore it reaches the desired temperature in about a quarter of the time of a conventional unit. Secondly, after reaching the set temperature, it finely adjusts the output power to maintain a constant temperature which means there are no uncomfortable temperature swings, even if the number of people in the room changes. Thirdly, and probably most importantly, although the Inverter models reach temperature in a quarter of the time and can easily hold a constant temperature it is also extremely more energy efficient than a conventional model, therefore keeping electricity consumption to a minimum, resulting in lower energy bills.

Is a Grade A conventional machine as Economical as a grade A Inverter?

Any Energy Grade A machine is economical to run, however it is technically impossible for a conventional compressor to run more efficiently than an Inverter compressor. This is due to the Inverter having the technology to regulate its own running speed and power.
